and-and Stellios (Michael Fassbender) can;t remember the exact quote, someone mentioned the sun and how hot it would be fighting, and Stellios said something like, "so we will fight in the shade" The bad guy said "our arrows will block out the sun" to which Stellios replied "so we will fight in the shade" Just how many times have you watched this movie You will note I correctly quoted Stellios

I have watched it a few times and have got a huge poster on my wall. And that bit at the end when he dies and says "My Queen, My Wife, My Love" .

I finally got the BluRay and am watching right now. It is in fact my third attempt to finally make it to the end. It sure has some good scenes, but i nearly threw up when they cut off the tongue of this poor abbot. For my taste it has too much visible violence. I know it was a cruel century and all but do they have to SHOW it this way? And the love - story... REALLY??? What does it has to do with the history at all? I mean is there a real background or did they just make it up? Anyway. It sucked. PERIOD! I was hoping Marshal would say NO and that was it but OF COURSE they started kissing and making out... 3 out of 10 points. I better watch Solomon Kane now again or since you mentioned it: 300. That's a different kind of showing the violence and it amused me more than giving me the feel to throw uo!

Amarys,Maybe you rather misunderstood the whole message of the movie! I think Ironclad is so great film, there is not place for nice moments at all,Middle Ages was cruel time, where men saved his honour, they fought for freedom and own independence. No like today when people do recognize anything! Ironclad has big message...it is belief in justice and the knowledge that even a handful of people to resist injustice, if not lack the courage and honor! Relationship of Marshall and Isabel,it is just on the edge of the story, shows the vulnerability of man and his need to belong. Thomas has found peace and love next to Isabel. I have again and again to admire James's mastery of acting, how could represent each facial muscle pain and doubt tortured soul. His need for love reveals the absurdity of killing in the name of God and faith, which is unfortunately still relevant today! You know Marshall is second best characters created by James!Marshall and Solomon are so similar....kiliing in the name of God and entitled to forgiveness, faith and find salvation! Ironclad is the type of movie much needed for this time! "THERE IS THE WORTH IN EVERY DEATH AND I WILL SEE IT NOW IN YOURS!" www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiC6eu-ZN74&feature=related

Oh dear, sistas, afraid we can't win them all Amarys - that period in history was very brutal, and the overall story is true, as to Marshall he was the only fictional character (made for the film). If you 'google' Rochester Castle you can read the actual account of the siege I'm afraid King John committed even worse atrocities Iris - our baby is always AWESOME and I loved the film (blood thirsty little wench that I am)

Well,in Ironclad is many historical truths and inaccuracies, example baron Albany(Brian Cox played him) existed really and he attended Rochester castle defence in 1215.Part with pigs is true also. Fiction is victory of rebels, arcibishop Langton(Charles Dance played him) really fought against king John with French, but king John defeated them. He had executed some of them and some got grace including Baron Albany, who died in the film. Character of Marshall is inspired of real William Marshal-1st earl of Pembroke, relationship with lady Isabel is similar too. It is just for explanation. By the way James is as Marshall most sexy ever with Solomon together sure! His hairychest(my deviation ) and amazing beard..I have no words!

James is really really good in this,as to the movie, well it´s always rather difficult for me to judge a movie with James especially when there was a lot of info before.I tend to watch him and him and him again, without paying much attention to the rest of the show.and like althea I could watch him watching paint dry. but,as mentioned before the camera movements are annoying.i was not so taken aback by the violence only the scene with the pigs I couldn´t stand.I still don´´t understand why they had to be so brutal, then and now, carcasses would have served as well. what I miss is a bit more depth, especially with the characters.they are just on the surface.so if they would have cut back some of the battle scenes(not James´s of course) and put in a bit more detail about the characters during the siege, were nothing much happened otherwise it would have been a better film. as far as I can tell the costumes were quite true to the Time, not Kate Mara´s that is.The mud and the blood and the dirt and the cruelty, well I ´m afraid that was the way it was back then. I simply love this movie,I do see any mistakes in that!It is one of the best Middle Age´s movie, which I´ve ever seen.Jonathan English is mistr and camera of David Eggby acts contrary to me very real! It is not just because James,Ironclad is unique but I understand every of us have different taste,no?

Okay then, I will love it too, just because it gave you pleasure. If you're happy, I'm happy. I still wish him that HBO series he has his eye on though. He so deserves it! That, and a Broadway play so we can go and give him some love en masse.

Iris, early history fascinates me, when a film maker gets it right, well,we'll give him poetic license to portray 'Isabel' without a wimple, and James is swashbuckling about all the better. Oh and Amen to Broadway, in the New Year pretty please with sugar on,

No doubt about it but i gotta admit i found the acting of Paul Giamatti even better !

My Ironclad DVD finally arrived and I watched it last night. I enjoyed it very much but then I have always liked this genre and James was just terrific, but then isn't he always! Plenty of blood and gore and severing of limbs, really grusesome in parts, but nothing I didn't expect and lets face it those were terrible times with many atrocities being carried out. The only thing that bothered me, as others have said, was the erratic camera movements during the battles, made me dizzy ;D James was supported by some terrific actors, Brian Cox, Jason Flemying and of course Paul Giamatti. Well done guys! "Only the weak believe that what they do in battle is who they are as men"
