Just finished the Official Movie Novelisation of Solomon Kane and thoroughly enjoyed it, by the time I see the movie I will know it all off by heart. It was well written and my imagination went wild!
I have a feeling I will have to wait for the DVD as the chance of SK being released here is pretty slim.
Mrs P have you finished Antony and Cleopatra yet?

I have just started reading Antony and Cleopatra by Colleen McCullough. As Mrs P said it is a bit heavy reading at times but I thoroughly enjoyed it and am sure you will too Still in my pile 'to read' I just read 'Games of Thrones', I saw that HBO are making a series with Sean Bean as Eddard Stark one of the main characters, the only other two actors I recognise are Mark Addy (from AKT) as the King and Jennifer Ehle (from B & H)as Catlyn Stark, Eddard's wife. If you aren't familiar with the books they are set in a medieval fantasy land, so no danger of HBO messing up history ;D So far so good, just started the second book, they are written by George R R Martin, I think there are about 8 books to date - watch this space

I´m still into Antony and Cleo and like it very much sofar.I also have finished the official novelistion of SK,liked it very much too,and suffice to say can´t wait for the movie and be it in chinese. I also read "the princess of Mars" a while ago .I liked the story but the style not so much.To many descriptions of the surface of Mars for my taste.and I really do hope that James as Kantos Khan has a lot more to do then in this book.I know he talked about his role not being big in the first film, but there should be more, this two days shoot was about it.

just finished Antony and Cleopatra, for those who havn´t read it yet,a warning spoilers ahead I must confess that as much I liked the book when I started out the more and more grew my dislike towards the end. Why she named the book Antony and Cleopatra and not Caesar Divus Julius is beyond me.It´s really about him and how he planed each a nd every step from the first page on and depicting Antony like a fly in a spiders web without standing the slightest chance to free himself.I mean History leaves a lot of ways to interpret the story of Antony and Cleo without describing Antony as one of the most pathetic creatures ever lived. Undoubtly Antony had a lot of foults, but there maust have been plenty of talent too,or a man like Caesar would never made him second in command. I know that with this "review" I´m hurting a lot of feelings, but please bear with me,it´s just because I´m so disapointed. Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Yes a great deal of the book was about Caesar but I was happy with the Antony/Cleopatra parts, answered a lot of my questions. I was the other way around Eva, it took a while for me to really get into it and when I did I thoroughly enjoyed it but it was 'heavy' reading. Mark Antony had many many faults, he was arrogant, a womaniser, drank and partied a lot but what Caesar liked about him was his skills in battle, a person he could rely on who would fight well and fight to the end and for this the people of Rome loved him too, until of course Cleopatra upset the apple cart!

I guess she named the book M&C purely for marketing purposes Eva. I agree there was a lot of Octavian etc, but i found it rather interesting to learn more about the others. Yes the ending was rather disappointing, but i guess its because we knew the fate of m/a. As for that "queen of beasts" i woulda thrown her to the lions!

well,I do see all your points, but there is so much not known for sure about MA himself and his relationship to Cleopatra that there was no need to choose this path. Funny enough that I read Thornbirds decades ago, which isn´t what I would usually read but I liked it. right now I´m reading another(I read a lot about history) textbook about MA,so we´ll see.

I loved the TV mini-series of The Thornbirds, but did the wrong thing and read the book afterwards, I was disappointed. At the moment I am reading, for the second time, The Innocent Man by John Grisham, based on a true story. My next book will be 9th Judgement by James Patterson...I'm in a 'crime' mood at the moment! ;D

I read the book first, so for me there was no way the priest looked anything like Richard Chamberlin Meggie was too tall, and what happened to the childhood years, when she formed her attachment to said priest (whose name eludes me) Imagination is a wonderful thing, it's just a pity when the people casting the characters get it wrong. I'm still reading my way through the Game of Thrones, onto the third book now Have read a couple of Nora Roberts books in between, light & fluffy - holiday reads really Then again I discovered Susan Hill whilst in Menorca last year, she rights about a detective called Simon Serrailler based somewhere south of London ;D I bit sort of like Morse, Jack Frost or Midsommer Murders, only this guy is late 30's and can resemble whoever you like

It was the book I was disappointed in because I saw the mini-series first and loved it, I believe that is when I decided I would always read books first before seeing movies/mini-series based on them. The Priest's name was Ralph de Bricassart. I own the DVD and no matter how many times I watch it, I always cry buckets of tears

I have just remembered I didn't let you all know what I thought of 'Pillars of the Earth'....I absolutely loved it and was sad when I came to the end of it. The only part that 'bored' me was all the detailed descriptions of the building of cathedrals etc. I must admit I did skip those parts but apart from that, just brilliant, can't wait to see the mini-series. I have just started the sequel 'World Without End' 1237 pages, bloody hell that will keep me busy for a while ;D but I can tell I am also going to really enjoy this one
